Folks interested in exploring Local History are always on the lookout for sources of information. Newspapers and books are frequently the resources most often consulted, and in today’s world many of them are as accessible as your personal computer. However, when conducting research do not overlook the value of a good map. Maps are just like photographs in that they capture very important details such as place names, roads, rivers and streams that existed when the map was drawn. Some maps have an added detail and provide family surnames and even show where they lived. During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, several maps of Jefferson County were published, and each provides a precise record of our county and the cultural, natural, and physical details at the time that the map was produced.
