The following Lenten reflection (lightly edited) was written by Father Ray Guthrie, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lake Geneva, Wis. Thanks to Father Ray for allowing me to publish his reflection in my column.

During Lent the season of repentance, which is a word that many know means to turn away from, calls us through prayer, fasting and almsgiving to turn away from the distortions and corruption as the world presents life to the light of Christ. For in Jesus we look at the world and life from the broader picture of how and why God created us and gave us dominion over all the world. Rather than from the narrow and simplistic image that the world prefers we use in solving the issues and problems of life.

Father was fluent in both Latin and in the language of engine maintenance. He even had a set of coveralls which he would wear that exposed only his Roman collar, lest no one would recognize that the greasy fellow who just slid out from under the car in the parking lot of St. Michael s was the pastor and chief mechanic of the parish.

The following e-letter was written by Suzanne and Pietrina Probst. God bless everyone involved in this pro-life endeavor!
In February 2020, Joe Lazar, a parishioner at St. Peter Church in Volo, organized and led the 40 Days for Life campaign at the Family Planning Associates (FPA) on North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. When the escorts at FPA realized that large groups of prayer warriors were descending upon their territory during the 40 Days campaign, they took a break and left the prayer warriors alone to pray and counsel women.
Through the power of the Holy Spirit, babies were saved during this campaign.

Two pro-life stalwarts died recently: notable veteran activist Joseph M. Scheidler (Jan. 18), the founder and national director of the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League, and Michael C. Busse Jr. (Jan. 4).
I worked for the Pro-Life Action League for several months about 20 years ago. Im glad I had that opportunity. Youd be hard-pressed to find anyone more dedicated to fighting the evil of abortion than Joe Scheidler. He was far more thick-skinned than I am, and lets face it being thick-skinned is a requirement to be an effective pro-life activist in our culture of death.
