When we look back on 2020, it’s pretty obvious what we’ll remember. The way we live, work, shop and spend our downtime has completely changed. Walk down many local high streets – something we’ve all been doing a lot more of, as our worlds for months on end were contained within a 15-minute walk – and what will you see? One, two, three (or more?) retailers that have either gone into administration or launched company voluntary arrangements.

Add to Bookmarks Normally, around this time of year, several members of the Drapers team would wrap up against the bitter cold of Florence and make our way through the well-dressed crowds at menswear trade show Pitti Uomo to peruse the new-season collections. New connections would be forged and old ones re-established, whether at the stands or later in a nearby trattoria. Not this year. Instead it has been a strange and muted start to the new year and new menswear season, to say the least. Pitti showed some collections digitally on 12-14 January and planned to run a physical event at the Fortezza da Basso on 21-23 February. However, this week it cancelled again, following the Italian government s decision to ban gatherings until at least 5 March.
