CLEMSON, S.C. – Spencer Whitaker and the Clemson men’s tennis team (8-2) came up clutch and defeated FAU (5-6) 4-2 on Friday afternoon at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. QUOTE The Tigers and Owls competed at a high level from the first serve, but FAU was able to get off to a quick head start, claiming a 6-2 win on Court 3 in doubles. Shortly after the Owl’s line one doubles pair secured the doubles point for FAU, leaving Max Smith and Jorge Plans Gonzalez’s 5-4 lead unfinished on Court 2. Matt Pitts put matters into his own hands on Court 4, making quick work of FAU’s Graca by a score of 6-1, 6-2. The match continued to go back and forth as the Owls took the match on Court 6 6-4, 6-4 right before Ryuhei Azuma went on to secure his line one match, dropping the first set 6-3 and then winning the next two 6-0, 6-0. Va. to take on Liberty and VCU. The Tigers play the Flames at 5 p.m. on Friday and the Rams at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The live stream for both matches is available here. CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson men’s tennis team (5-0) continued to roll at Duckworth Family Tennis Facility, defeating South Alabama (3-1) 5-2 With the win, the Tigers are off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 2017. QUOTE: The Tigers earned the first singles win of the day as Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Max Smith dominated the No. 2 South Alabama pair, 6-1 to gain some momentum. The Jaguars were able to notched things up at one a piece on Court 1 until Trey Stinchcomb and Matt Pitts were able to give Clemson the doubles point. The serving of Stinchcomb proved to be the difference in the win. Plans Gonzalez and Stinchcomb continued their impressive play early in the season, making quick work of their Jaguar opponents, 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-3 on Courts 2 and 5.
