Community center proposed to New London Council

NEW LONDON Pastor Doug Lang from the New London Alliance Church and church member Matt Pickens presented council Monday with a proposal for a community center.
It would be built on 6.6 acres on three parcels in the middle of town between East Main Street and Park Avenue. The village owns 3.383 of these acres and the other two pieces are owned by the United Methodist Church and the school. The area was the location of the old school, which was demolished around 20 years ago.
The men said this center is only in the planning stage and they are just starting discussions with the land owners to see if the idea is feasible. They originally planned to use 10 acres they own across from the church for a center, but would prefer to have it near downtown where it would be accessible to as many people as possible.
What a run the Union High football team had to reach the Class 4 state semifinals.
The Wildcats gave fans memories that will last years, at a time when everyone could use some happy thoughts. For me, it was particularly fun because of the opponents Union faced.
You see, Iâm the kind of person who, whenever I hear about a high school, I have to go to Wikipedia to see who its ânotable alumniâ are. Iâll even drive by a school in a major city and ask my wife to immediately look up who went there.
And the former students at the schools the Wildcats faced made up a whoâs who of well-known people from the St. Louis area.
