“People can make a nice little crawl out of it if they want to,” Ani Meinhold tells New Times.
A co-owner at Phuc Yea, Meinhold spearheaded the project. MiMo is a quaint, casual little neighborhood and people should experience its diversity, she says. The vibe is not over-the-top or pretentious. Businesses are owned by locals and eateries offer more than meets the eye. People don’t even realize how many hidden gems there are in the area.
Photo by Daniel Kocsis 305-699-2637 Beaker & Gray is a lively restaurant that places equal importance on its cocktail and food menus, thanks to partners Brian Nasajon and Ben Potts. Nasajon serves as executive chef, while Potts sees to the bar program. Cocktails come fruity and fizzy (shaken) or bold and boozy (stirred), and the food is significantly elevated from the usual pub grub. Favorite like chicken wings and ramen bowls come with a sophisticated twist.

2020 was a character-building year filled with a lot of adversity but a lot of diversity. The scariest part of going through a pandemic is the unknown. We cooked for first responders. We started shipping across the country. We ship direct through our website with baking instructions. We now deliver mac and cheese to Brooklyn and Los Angeles and Tallahassee. We never would have thought to do that if not for the pandemic. Sometimes you get into your comfort zone and comfort kills. What I m grateful for is that the community has come out for us, and I haven t fired or laid off one single person.
Photo by Amanda Julca 305-204-2372 Sisters Jennifer and Michele Kaminski channeled years of watching their mother, Chom “Sunny” Kaminski cook at her Indiana restaurant. Seeing a need for delicious Korean food in Miami, they opened 2 Korean Girls with a little help from culinary veteran Allen Susser. The virtual takeout-and-delivery-only concept revolves around bibimbap, the Korean bowl filled with rice, meats, and vegetables (and customarily topped with a fried egg or a raw one if you re hardcore). The sisters turn the staple dish on its side with renditions like the Fish Better Have My Money, made with cod and festooned with edible gold flakes ($17); and the Impos-Seoul-Ible, made with plant-based bulgogi meatballs ($16). The meals come in adorable K-pop boxes and are pleasing to the eyes (check out the heart-shaped fried eggs!). But the real enjoyment comes in mixing all the ingredients together and eating these flavorful, soulful bowls of goodness.
