The sound of hammers briefly echoed through the Dickinson County News offices this week, as staff added a number of award plaques to their walls. The newspaper raked in 21 honors placing first in eight competition categories during last week's Iowa Better Newspaper Contest in Des Moines.
One of the most popular events to watch, if not participate in, at Winter Games in Okoboji is the annual Polar Plunge. The plungees lined up for the opportunity to jump in to bone-numbing West Lake Okoboji water. The cost to participate was $25, with proceeds going to benefit the Arnolds Park Okoboji Fire & Rescue Department, whose volunteers who are always on-hand to assist as needed.
