A woman flying from Salt Lake City to Hawaii unexpectedly gave birth over the Pacific Ocean, according to a report from KUTV.
Lavina Lavi Mounga said she was unaware she was pregnant until she went into labor at 29 weeks on the flight. Luckily for Mounga and her baby three of the flight’s passengers were newborn intensive care unit nurses and one of the passengers was a doctor. The story emerged on social media and videos about the incident received millions of views on Tic Tok.
Mounga and her baby will remain in Hawaii for a few weeks until he is strong enough to travel back to Utah.
As part of a multi-state trip, first lady Jill Biden is scheduled to visit Utah on Wednesday, according to the Deseret News.
Biden will stop in Colorado Springs and Las Vegas as part of her trip as well. The purpose of her visit has not been released yet. This is her first visit to the state as first lady. Her last visit to Salt Lake City was to campaign for her husband.
The Deseret News reports that this visit comes after a three-day tour of the Southwest last week where Biden visited a coronavirus vaccine clinic on the Navajo Reservation and spoke with female tribal leaders about the needs of their communities.

As vaccine availability continues to outpace demand in Utah, organizations like churches or businesses will now be able to sign up to host mobile vaccine clinics.
“We will come to you and at no cost to your organization,” said Gov. Spencer Cox during his press conference on Thursday. Organizations like businesses, employers, churches, or community groups can go to coronavirus.utah.gov to request a free, mobile clinic.
The hope is that bringing the vaccine to where people already are will make it easier for those who have not been vaccinated to access the service.
The Utah Democratic Party Chair, Jeff Merchant issued an apology today on behalf of the state party to “several women who came forward years ago with (sexual harassment) allegations (that) were not treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.”
According to a press release, Utah Democrats decided to re-examine how these allegations were handled in light of the allegations made against members of the Salt Lake County Republican Party and which were widely publicized last week. The release stated that “the party did not give the women involved an opportunity to speak, and therefore failed to complete an investigation.”
