the guy is a registered independent. was he particularly political? in the sense that he was odd in political ways. he would talk about the constitution. his free speech. i asked that math instructor, i said did he have any kind of political bent? anderson, he said if he had a political bent, it was liberal pot-smoker. those were the words that the math teacher used. you said he registered as a an independent. wrote independent on his voter registration card. votedie in 06. voted in 08. did not vote in 10? he seemed obsessed with u.s. currency and language. he asked congresswoman giffords at an earlier event about how do
he had another ammunition clip with him, which he had already put in that gun. it had 31 bullets in it. just by chance, anderson, the spring malfunctioned and the gun jammed. that gave pause and that gave two men an opportunity to tackle him. so this really could have been so much worse. drew, you talked about the history of this guy, the problems he had had in school. he got kicked out of school because of his bizarre behavior. there s a lot of heated political rhetoric, a lot of finger-pointing by republicans and democrats about whether the heated political rhetoric in this country in some way contributed to this. do we know anything i know the guy is a registered independent. was he particularly political? in the sense that he was odd in political ways. he would talk about the constitution. his free speech. i asked that math instructor, i said did he have any kind of political bent? anderson, he said if he had a
loughner was taking last summer. in that class he was becoming very disruptive, disturbing the other classmates, becoming increasingly more scary to them. in fact, one of the e-mails from one of the students at the time, don, was that this guy scares the crap out of me. his math instructor told me earlier today that from day one, day one, loughner was making outbursts in class that were very scary. not every class, just the first day of class and then the rest of the days he was very quiet and kind of isolated and in his own little world and didn t want to talk to anybody. at one point did you try to get him removed from the class, or did you get him removed? i did. i tried two times i think. i think on the third attempt he had said something about the constitution, like violating his first amendment rights, and i think that was the straw that

even his math teacher says that he felt threatened by his behavior in class. he was a threat. he actually wrote something on the quiz that said mayhem best and wrote that in big, bold capital letters. yep. it appears all the warning signs were there, but no one did anything about it. drew griffin is investigating loughner s background from arizona. drew, let s start with you. what else have you been able to find out about loughner? well, we talked about that math class. that math class was an elementary algebra class. from day one, the math instructor told me that loughner was making random incoherent outbursts. he was challenging the authority of the teacher. and then he would kind of cocoon himself with ipods and not
