GHAZIABAD: A sub-inspector and a head constable have been suspended for not taking action on a robbery complaint in Masuri.
An FIR was lodged after the complainant walked into the SSP’s office on Thursday and demanded that her complaint be registered. DIG and SSP Amit Pathak took the complainant to the concerned police station and ensured that the complaint was registered, and suspended Icha Ram and Satendra Singh, the SI of Garden Enclave police chowki and head constable respectively. Additionally, six police personnel were sent to the police line.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when Masuri resident Pravesh Gahlot (19), a college student, was returning home after meeting her friend. Two bike-borne men stopped behind her and snatched her phone.

GHAZIABAD: Incidents of theft are on the rise in the areas under the jurisdiction of almost all police stations in Ghaziabad so far this year. According to Ghaziabad police data, a total of 1,284 FIRs of theft have been lodged in the district from January 1 to June 30 this year, a spike of nearly 19% compared to the corresponding period in 2020, when 1,082 cases were filed.
Most of the theft cases registered this year (977) are vehicle thefts. The data reveals that most vehicle thefts have been reported in Kavi Nagar (139), followed by Indirapuram (115) and Sahibabad (95). The most burglaries have occurred in Sahibabad (41), followed by Indirapuram (35).

GHAZIABAD: Five traffic policemen, including three head constables and two constables, have been suspended for allegedly trying to extort money from cloth traders after they were stopped during checking in Masuri at NH-9. On Tuesday, TOI reported that four traders from Garh Mukteshwar made a complaint to Dr Iraj Raja, SP (rural), that five traffic cops had stopped them on NH-9 in Masuri on Sunday and demanded Rs 20,000 to let them go.
The traders were carrying Rs 2.3 lakh worth cash with them, which they said was to purchase some goods from Delhi.
They alleged that the traffic cops stopped them saying it was a weekend lockdown and then asked for Rs 20,000.
