LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT)–The Rangers felt a chip on their shoulder coming into Friday night’s game, and rode that energy to hand Central their first loss of the season.
“It was motivation,” said Senior Dareales Phillips. “As long as I see the smiles on these boys’ faces, the tears of joy, this is my last game, I’m just glad we won I’m glad we were able to go to battle.” he added.
But things were looking Central’s way early, as as Therin Smith punched a pitch into the end zone to put the RiverHawks 7-0.

This spring football season we’re seeing a young Central team defy low projections and get off to a 2-0 start, with a former slot receiver taking over the quarterback spot.
5-foot-8 junior Mason Herlitzke had three touchdowns and about 330 yards in 2019. After two games now, he has over 700 total yards and 11 touchdowns, some of them going for huge yards.
At only 165 pounds he’s absorbing plenty of hits as a ball carrier from bigger guys, but you won’t see him complain. He’s got a single goal on his mind, with leadership and big play capability to back it up.
