Toniebox review: A cuddly speaker with one big flaw

💵Bang for the Buck 3.0 This past year of pandemic living has made nearly everyone more reliant on screens…  and therefore more desperate than ever for screen-free entertainment. That s particularly true of families, who may be searching for non-screen toys for their youngest members (if they have an educational component, even better).  Thanks to this confluence of circumstances, kid-specific audio speakers and storytellers are having a big moment. The German-made Toniebox, a durable-yet-squishy cube that plays a variety of stories and songs for kids, saw sales spike by 500% in Europe within the first month of the pandemic-related lockdown in 2020. These devices occupy little ones with stories and songs, are designed to be used without a parent present, and encourage aural learning and a love of reading.

Lunii My Fabulous Storyteller Review: An interactive story speaker

💵Bang for the Buck 4.5 Screens have been essential for survival during this pandemic period, but that doesn’t mean parents are happy with the status quo. There s been a concurrent scramble to find screen-free alternatives that appeal to the kids.  Audio readers are a palatable – albeit expensive – screen-free toy alternative. Combining education and entertainment, audio readers like Lunii s My Fabulous Storyteller are designed for kids to operate independently, so they can listen to stories whenever they like, at home or on the go.  The Lunii has lots to recommend it, especially for parents who not only want their kids to be readers and listeners, but storytellers, too. It encourages children to help choose the characters and their adventures, igniting little imaginations and helping kids understand the building blocks of a story: character, setting, plot, conflict. It also features stories in a selection of languages; learning new languages can help k

Our Place Always Pan review: Doesn t live up to the Instagram hype

💵Bang for the Buck 1.5 Before we get into this review, I’d be remiss not to admit something up front: I am very susceptible to Instagram-famous products. Call me a sucker, sue me, whatever — I simply cannot resist a stylishly muted color or a sunlit product photo. I try to scroll past, but they call to me.  I m willing to bet that a lot of you out there are just like me. Please know that you are seen.  Unsurprisingly, I was extra intrigued by the Always Pan from Our Place. You ve probably seen it on Instagram: It s that pan with the cool minimalist design, handy spatula slot, and non-stick coating. It also purports to replace eight traditional pieces of cookware — a big claim. (It has a big price to match: $145.)

Apple Fitness+ review: A workout app fit for Apple Watch loyalists

Is Apple’s new exercise app enough to fend off the quarantine-induced fitness slump? With the pandemic raging on for almost a year now, the excitement of working out from home has likely worn off for a lot of people. But gyms are still unsafe, leaving most people no choice but to continue exercising under their own roofs. So in comes Fitness+, Apple s $9.99 per month (or $79.99 per year) subscription service that offers a variety of different workouts (including Dance, Cycling, Core, Strength, HIIT, and more) that can be taken right from your living room. Each class, led by Apple s curated team of instructors, ranges anywhere from five to 45 minutes, and offers the ability to track your metrics in real time.
