former president trump and current president biden are being treated with the document issue. i think every american has an interest in seeing that classified documents are handled properly by whoever is president. and by any administration, and all we re looking for is equal treatment. reporter: on abc s this week, outgoing chair of the house intelligence committee, democrat adam schiff agreeing congress needs more information. you raise the possibility of a national security assessment. is it possible that national security was jeopardized here as as many, including you, raised that possibility with the mar-a-lago documents? i don t think we can exclude the possibility without knowing more of the facts. we have asked for an assessment in the intelligence community of the mar-a-lago documents. i think we ought to get that same assessment of the documents found in the in the think tank, as well as the home of president biden. questions on both sides of the aisle. maryalic
griner was released, paul whelan got a call reassuring him he wasn t forgotten. they re better informed about what the russians expectations are now that they ve gone through these tough negotiations to get griner home. linsey. the whelan family actively hoping for movement on that front. faith, thank you. considering to make criminal referrals to the justice department. a final decision is expected in the next few days. adam schiff says the committee statement will not be political. if we do make referrals, we want to be very careful about how we do them. but i think we re all certainly in agreement that there was evidence of criminality here. let s go straight to abc s white house correspondent maryalice parks. maryalice, what do we know about what the committee might decide? reporter: they re meeting through the weekend and planned
to make recommendations today. on this question on whether to make criminal referrals. whether to formally urge the department of justice to prosecute anyone else related to january 6th. the committee has accused him of commit committing several crimes in the days after the election when he tried to circumvent the election results. but there are other people they could be eyeing too. ultimately, any decision to bring charges remains with the department of justice. they ve been doing their own investigation. the committee wants to be careful here not to make doj s work more complicated. not to get in the way. we do expect any final decisions to be wrapped by december 21st. time is certainly running out. maryalice, thank you. next tonight, tributes are pouring in for grant wahl. he died suddenly while covering the world cup in qatar.
