Hubaib Amin joins cohort of 30 Canadians as a 2021 Loran Scholar

An Oshawa student is among a group of those selected from across Canada as a 2021 Loran Scholar for his potential to become a leader of integrity.

Hubaib Amin, who attends Eastdale Collegiate and Vocational Institute, and a student from Pickering joined a cohort of 30 out of more than 6,000 applicants from across the country.
The scholars receive the country’s largest undergraduate merit award.
“In a time of immense change and challenge, these scholars have gown grit and resilience, finding ways to make the most of these extraordinary circumstances and meaningfully serve their communities,” reads a statement from the Loran Scholars Foundation.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit has confirmed 12 new cases of COVID-19 in Northumberland County.
According to the latest data, our region now has 82 active cases and four current outbreaks.
The outbreaks are at: St. Mary Catholic Secondary School, Timber House Resort, Swiss Chalet in Cobourg and Christian Horizons in Port Hope.
The province is reporting 4,227 new cases of COVID-19 today and 18 more deaths from the virus.
There have been four more cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Northumberland County.
The latest data put out by the HKPR District Health Unit shows our region now has 63 active cases, with 7 more in Haliburton and 23 in Kawartha Lakes.
We still have two active outbreaks; one at Timber House Resort and one at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School.
In Ontario today, 3,215 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today and 17 more deaths linked to the virus.
The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is reporting 41 new cases of COVID-19.
The jump is the combined tally over the last three days with no data being provided on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The number of active cases for the health unit has increased to 92, which includes 63 in Northumberland County, 22 in the Kawarthas, and seven in Haliburton County.
Outbreaks are currently active at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School and Golden Plough Lodge.
