political commentators mary catherine hamm and alice stewart, nice to have you all here. mark preston, this is not just our reporting. this is the new york times this is multiple outlets, the president asked about it this morning in davos. he doesn t say no, i never did this, he just again brushes it off as fake news, which we can attribute it to just news he doesn t like. if i try to put this in perspective for everybody out there, couple of things that are important. one, four sources told the new york times who broke this story about this incident. cnn, washington post, many other outlets have confirmed it. there is there there. no question about that. it is important that you can t keep on explaining away bad news by calling it fake news. he s been doing that to great success, certainly with his base. his base needs to wake up. i m not saying he s guilty of
i want to withdraw some consideration for that. juan: i don t think this is fair to harvard. jesse: i will not accept any speaking imitations from harvard as a sign of protest against this decision. i would not want to make the cia director, former cia director angry. juan: mike pompeo says he is not going. jesse: i would not want to be on the bedside of the cia. all of these ivy league institutions do the same thing. they hire these people for p.r. reasons, and it is a p.r. play. juan:n: so they also have robbie who ran hillary s campaign, sean spicer is out there. mary catherine hamm. joe scarborough, he is there. dana: all legitimate people that you can learn something from prior to this decision about chelsea manning was horrific for harvard.ma it was a decision, it s like harvard wantsor to be edgy. oh, look how woke we are. if i haven t chelsea manning. and i think it deserves a bitter cold that it is getting paid and
will they keep focus? at the moment, from the administration s response to the particulars of this in the past 72 to 100 hours, bipartisan, good grade so far? right? people seem to say they have what they need. the biggest of deals at this point. what we saw in previous disasters of this kind maybe a disconnect between washington and the ground. what people really needed and whether requirements can, what they were and what was able to be delivered by state and local authorities and by the feds. not seeing that yet. all indications are the team president trump has in place in the administration a lot of areas of the government haven t hadn t fumy staffed up and don t have the expertise they need. those dealing with this disaster do not appear to be one of them. at this point they don t have any pushback. the challenge is going to be given that the storm is continuing, whether they can sustain that in the days to come. that s the big unknown that as mary katherine said, the president
hurricane andresulting flooding. the president, there to offer words of comfort to the people of texas. with us, abby phillips, and julie davis, and mary catherine hamm of the federalist. the president arriving a few minutes early. again, there will be people who say, why isn t he hugging flooding victims? this is a smart call by the president. you do not want to get in the way and distract from the search and rescue efforts. also a smart call for the president because he is going to texas to say i m here in the early days to support you. what do we expect on this day when they just simply don t know? don t know how much federal resources this will take. how tough to get those through congress, even though you have a republican president and republican congress. these things tend to turn into fights. the main thing about this is that, this visit, a lot is about optics. a lot of the role of the president in a situation like this is about projecting a sense
though. they re not going to go to the other side. the other side is not coming to the middle. they re not trying to work with anybody. it seems like they get further and further away, so the modera moderate. both parties worked together and got a lot done. you re not seeing that. i think they re still going to work with the administration. mary catherine hamm and more. we ll speak to two lawmakers on very opposite sides of the political aisle, senators rand paul and harris. that view next.
