LA CROSSE, Wis. (WXOW) - Local bars and restaurants will see a small break continue, after the Common Council approved a resolution continuing to keep liquor license fees low through 2021.
The fees had been set to revert back to their former levels per the budget approved last November. The resolution brought before the council last night keeps the fees at the rates set due to the pandemic. That s expected to leave an $80,000 deficit in the city s operating budget.
9th District council member Phillip Ostrem proposed an amendment to raise fees slightly, tempering the deficit by half, adding that he understands businesses are struggling.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) The 10 candidates for La Crosse mayor wrestled with some of the major issues facing the city, including systemic racism, budgeting amid financial pressures from COVID-19, affordable housing, and police oversight.
The racial issue prompted references to local demonstrations related to George Floyd’s death at the hands of police in Minneapolis on May 25, as well as the Jan. 6 riot of President Donald Trump supporters in Washington, D.C.
“This past summer, we saw the youth of our community lead on this issue,” said Jessica Olson, who now represents District 8 on the Common Council.
