Man Who Saved 2-Year-Old in Marshall House Explosion Dies
The man dubbed a hero for running back into a Marshall home after it exploded to save a two-year-old girl dies from his injuries.
A sad update to pass along nearly one month after a home in Marshall, Michigan exploded leaving 8 seriously injured. A release from the Marshall Fire Department Chief Martin Erskine confirms the 38-year-old male who had been hospitalized for his injuries at the University of Michigan Hospital succumbed to his injuries and died on Friday (5-7-2021).

Family members of the 38-year-old identify him as Dustin Boggess. They say Dustin was a hero even before sacrificing himself to run back into the Marshall home on April 12, to save the 2-year-old female victim.
MARSHALL VICTIM DIES: One of the victims injured in an explosion and fire in Marshall in April has died, according to Marshall Chief of Police Josh Lankerd. Dustin Boggess was one of eight people in the house at 532 Clinton St. when a natural gas explosion and fire destroyed the home and injured all eight people. Boggess, 38, was one of two people taken to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor for treatment. Investigators said the the house was being renovated and the explosion was caused by a gas leak but Fire Chief Martin Erskine has said its not clear what triggered the explosion and fire.
MARSHALL - Three people, including a 2-year-old girl, remain in hospitals following a gas explosion and house fire more than a week ago.
Marshall Fire Chief Martin Erskine said Tuesday two adults, a man, 38, and woman, 27, are at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. The woman s daughter, 2, remains a patient at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Two other people, a man, 38, and woman, 43, were released from Bronson Hospital last week. A man, 36, a woman, 35, and a boy, 10, were treated and released shortly after the incident.
Police Chief Josh Lankerd said Tuesday that names of the people injured are not being released pending notification of next of kin and as the investigation into the exact cause of the explosion and fire remain under investigation.
Marshall Explosion that Injured Eight Caused by Natural Gas
Natural gas is cited as the cause of the Marshall house explosion and fire that left eight injured, three seriously.
While the investigation is still ongoing by Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Department, foul play is not suspected at this time. Marshall Fire Chief Martin Erskine described the escape of all occupants in the home as miraculous in a press conference held Monday, April 13.

While their escape is miraculous, none of the eight were fortunate enough to escape injury. All eight individuals in the home suffered burns and other injuries and were hospitalized following the explosion. Three of the victims have since been released.
MARSHALL - Eight people were injured early Monday when a home exploded and caught fire.
Marshall Fire Chief Martin Erskine said all eight were taken to either Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo or Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall, with some believed to have serious injuries. He said officials are gathering information on their identities and medical conditions.
Later in the day Erskine and Marshall Police Chief Josh Lankerd said five people remain at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Those were identified as two women, ages 27 and 43, two men, both 38, and a 2-year-old girl.
Three others, a man, 36, woman, 35, and boy 10, were all treated at hospitals and released.
