New Delhi [India], February 3 (ANI): Air Marshal Manavendra Singh has been appointed the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the IAF s Southern Air Command. He takes over from Air Marshal Amit Tiwari who has been posted as chief of the Central Air Command.
According to a press statement issued by the Indian Air Force, Singh is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Kharakvasla, and Army War College.
In a career spanning over 38 years, Air Marshal Singh has held a number of command and staff positions. He has commanded various frontline airbases besides heading the IAF peacekeeping contingent in Bukavu in Congo.

Air Marshal Amit Tiwari, AVSM VM, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command, has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM).
The honour is conferred on him in recognition of distinguished service of the most exceptional order and life time achievements in the service of the nation and is the highest peacetime military award.
Air Vice Marshal S. Ramakrishnan, Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Maintenance Plans) at Air Headquarters, has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for meritorious service. He is a native of the capital and an alumnus of the College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The resurrection of 222 Squadron at Thanjavur with Sukhoi-30 aircraft paved the way for strengthening maritime security in the southern peninsula and helped in maintaining the country s interests in the Indian ocean region, Air Marshal Amit Tiwari, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command, said on Saturday.
Speaking at the Commanders conference at the Southern AirCommand at nearby Akkulam, Air Marshal Tiwari also outlined the efforts by SAC in fast-tracking infrastructure development for fighters, deployment of radars and successful conduct of Combined Guided Weapons firing at Suryalanka (air force station, Andhra Pradesh) on varied firing platforms. Expressing satisfaction over induction of an additional indigenously built LCA Tejas aircraft squadron at Sulur (Tamil Nadu), he said the Air Force is in a highly accelerated growth stage and induction of indigeneous systems was in tandem with the Centre s Make in India initiative.
