Good evening. Thirty five different Law Enforcement agencies are teaming up this weekend to keep impaired drivers off of the road. Near the busy roads theyll spend the weekend protecting, law enforcers line up for a friday evening roll call. Its the opening of College Football this weekend the badgers game is on saturday afternoon. Lots sure that people either stay home or they drive home safely with some type of designated driver program. Theyre kicking off the southeast wisconsin owi task forces Labor Day Weekend effort. And while days like new years, memorial day and Saint Patricks day normally top the list for intoxicated driving, lt. Attorney general brad schimel, stressing today that the body camera footage from the officer who shot and killed smith, gives a narrow and incomplete view of the incident, especially since the first 30 seconds dont have any audio. Audio would be great. But one of the ways this Camera Technology got into Law Enforcement was there had to be some give and takes. The company that body cameras said when the technology was first introduced, many Police Unions feared na officer and citizen privacy would be at risk. If the camera saved every single conversation. This 30second delay was a compromise. Theres nothing nefarious about that. That camera has a 30second buffer, period. The cameras are always on and always recording. But in order to save a specific incident, the officer has to physically double click on the someone run a red light, i double click that button, it captures that previous 30 seconds of video only.
