Soon, commercial power customers of Coldwater Board of Public Utilities may have the ability to use their own solar generation to reduce grid power purchase.
CBPU Engineering Manager Jim Odneal said there is already a program in place for the much smaller residential solar units.
“To revise it for commercial, we increased the size allowable and we also made it mandatory to have a PE stamp on the plans, Odneal said.
The professional engineer would have to certify the project meets both local building codes and national codes and standards for connections to the power system.
The size of the units could increase from the current 20 kW to 150 kW, still not the size of even a small solar farm.
