Roguelite deckbuilder
Dicey Dungeons surprise-launched on Switch in the middle of December and has been keeping us busy over the holidays with its addictive blend of eye-catching art, cheeky humour, brilliant soundtrack and of course dice-based dungeon crawling.
We recently caught up with designer Terry Cavanagh and composer Chipzel via email to talk about the origins of this gem, how its characters and mechanics formed and evolved throughout development, and how classic British game shows helped shape the game and set it apart from your average fantasy deckbuilder.
First, we speak to designer Terry.
Nintendo Life: We’ve read that Dicey Dungeons was born from a roguelike game jam. Can you tell us a little about that and how your ideas developed over time?
A Gilmore Girls Themed Fire Emblem Mod Is Available To Play
A powerful crossover indeed.
Fire Emblem your favorite RPG franchise that combines chess and dating and Gilmore Girls got a fan-made crossover. The creator, Marlowe Dobb, borrowed the power of both cult classics to create an hour-long Fire Emblem Sacred Stones mod with characters and plotlines from Gilmore Girls.
Mods are asleep time to share my latest project:
✨FIRE EMBLEM: GILMORE GIRLS ADDITION.✨
That s right.
I made a 1-hour FE8 mod about Gilmore Girls for the literal millions of people who are fans of both franchises.
According to Fire Emblem: Gilmore Girls itch.io page, the mod contains four custom maps, multiple playable characters, fun dialogue, and depictions of a normal mother-daughter relationship. Playing the mod requires a ROM version of FE Sacred Stones and a .ups patch applying software.
Terry Cavanagh is known for making some
tough games. If you’ve played the likes of
Super Hexagon, you’re no doubt familiar with his unique brand of simplistic and punishing game design. That design is on full display, albeit in a completely new form, with his latest project,
Dicey Dungeons. Here, instead of your reflexes, your strategic skills are put to the test as you have to get a bunch of living dice through some punishing gauntlets of chance-based hell. It’s cute, it’s infuriating, and it’s
dangerously enjoyable.
Dicey Dungeons takes place in a bizarre game show run by the embodiment of fate herself, Lady Luck. Each of the six contestants has come to the game show in pursuit of their greatest desire, which could supposedly become theirs if only they can ‘win’. The catch is that participation in the game show requires each participant to be turned into a playing die and to battle their way through a series of treacherous, shifting dungeons that are ruled by

Try Your Luck In Roguelike Deck-Builder Dicey Dungeons, Rolling To Switch eShop Today
Terry Cavanagh s light-hearted deck-building, dice-rolling roguelike
Dicey Dungeons appeared in Nintendo s Indie World Showcase way back in March. It may have taken a while, but the game has finally arrived on Switch eShop check out the launch trailer above.
The game comes primarily from prolific indie developer and designer Terry Cavanagh (of
Super Hexagon fame), artist Marlowe Dobbe, and musician Chipzel. Dicey Dungeons has you playing as a giant walking dice battling through you guessed it! a procedurally-generated dungeon.
It s a combination of hard strategy and the luck of the roll as you dungeon crawl your way to victory (or defeat, but let s have some New Year optimism, shall we?) as one of six characters/classes with different playstyles. The game evolved from a roguelike game jam back in 2018 and was designed with the intention of creating a colourful and enchanting world that
