Sweetheart. The title is fitting: it’s dreamy and nostalgic and somewhat swoon-worthy; but it also makes you wince ever so slightly on the ‘sweet’, and then the ‘heart’ comes, heavy and all too full, over your awkward teen tongue. It’s not one thing – just like its 17-year-old protagonist AJ, and just like the film itself.

One of the world’s most significant and long-standing queer film events, this year’s BFI Flare will deliver virtual festival premieres of the best new LGBTIQ+ cinema from around the world via BFI Player to UK-wide audiences.

Initially planned as a hybrid event taking place both in cinemas and online, the 2021 edition of the Glasgow Film Festival will now unfold entirely online, via Glasgow Film’s new viewing platform Glasgow Film At Home. The movies will be accessible to everyone in the UK (not just in Scotland) for the price of £9.99 per film and with special, themed bundles.
