shooter do? he shoots paul in the back of the head after he passes him. okay. and then he shoots paul in the back of the head like this and murders where does the blood spatter go? the blood spatter, the when i did know about, the expert collected this in a door frame at the top of the door. i understand it s a little different than the feed room door. it s the best we can do. what did you find odd about the theory, first of all? i think the theory is preposterous, in my opinion. mark o mara, that was
so that was the key moment. mark o mara, how important i don t know if we will ever get an answer from the jury about whether they thought of that moment. but how important was that piece of video, you think? i will tell you the truth. i thought that was a weak moment for state to try and present that as a confession. now a freudian slip confession possibly, but i don t think they should have really focused on that as being some massive confession of him, because quite honestly, there is a couple of interpretations of it. and with the special evidence case, you to be a little careful with the jury going beyond the permission they give you. they put together a very good case. i didn t think that was particularly compelling. i thought i heard the word i rather than they. but i don t think it really mattered too much. i think they needed to put together a case they did. i want to bring in the jury consultant jill huntley taylor. jill, it s so fascinating to see these videos n
time. i have represented plenty of people factually innocent who have told dumb lies because in the moment the stress, the how does this look. do i look like i might be guilty, i know i m not guilty and you tell a distinctive lie. it is true it creates a problem because there are so many lies that have to flow from it. i think the video also raises some interesting questions yli, like with what happened in those few minutes. you have this kennel video, there doesn t seem to be anyone in distress, anyone yelling, anything unusual, and then all of a sudden this horrendous crime happened, what happened? as much as the prosecution wants to say this is some mastermind, this was not a very well thought out crime if, in fact, you are saying he calculated this. this was some big scheme to deflect from all of these financial crimes. so i think the defense can use the video to their advantage, although i agree it started out as a big problem. what do you think? laura, to go to mark s earlier p
good evening, everyone, i m laura coates and closing arguments today in the double murder trial, and they will resume tomorrow and come after five weeks of tense, emotional, and graphic moments. as the jury of 12 in walterboro, south carolina, will soon decide alex murdaugh s fate. for the very first time today, they visited the scene of the murders of maggie and paul murdaugh traveling to the family s hunting property, and for the first time we also got to look at the crime scene up close via video released today. now, here s how tonight is going to work. we have assembled some of the nation s most prominent trial and jury veterans to analyze the key pieces of evidence and which sides may have presented the very best arguments. on the defense table, mark o mara who defended george
it s ear witnessing. and the emergency response took so long. that s another part that i think is interesting. he called i think it was 12 or 14 minutes later because the property is so hard to get around. and emergency response couldn t find their way. he knew the way. that is going to be part of the discussion. this is really fascinating evolution that we ve all got an opportunity to look into. because there s a lot to work with both sides. i think the defense has date of birth a g done a great job. mark o mara said on the cnn special last night, he talked about how detrimental it is for the prosecution not to have a murder weapon here. listen to this. the harsh reality is you should have found those guns. they could have found the guns. they worked this case for a year and a half. the fact they don t have it leaves a gaping hole through which reasonable doubt is going to be found. i can t say it s a gaping hole. there are crimes where they don t find the weapon.
