J. Thomas Savage, the director behind one of Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library s most successful exhibitions, is leaving the site to become the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation s director of educational travel and conferences.
Savage helped bring the Costumes of Downton Abbey to Winterthur, which has been the museum s highest-grossing and best-attended show.
His departure was announced to Winterthur s staff late Thursday.
Savage is an expert on British country houses and through the years coordinated and led specialized itineraries in England, Ireland and Scotland.
He was directly responsible for Winterthur s Downton Abbey exhibition, featuring designs from the award-winning PBS TV series, according to Mark Nardone, Winterthur s communication director.
