Nexia BT founder and managing partner Brian Tonna insisted that the Panama companies which ended up in the hands of Keith Schembri and Konrad Mizzi – as well as Egrant – had not been acquired with any specific intent in mind as he continued his testimony in front of Parliament’s Public Affairs Committee on Wednesday.
In his third appearance in front of the committee with more to come, Tonna – currently out on bail after being charged with money laundering and other financial crimes – repeatedly insisted that the firm he had founded had been unfairly targeted by the media and elsewhere, leading to its closure.
Sixty-five new police officers were sworn on Friday, in a ceremony at Ta’ Kandja.
The officers, 54 men and 11 women, joined the force after they concluded a four-month training course for recruits, led by the Disciplinary Forces Academy.
It included physical and academic training.
The event was attended by Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri who congratulated the new recruits and encouraged them to continue with their studies.
Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà reminded the new officers of the force’s mission - to provide a professional and trusted service to ensure a safe country in partnership with the community.
He emphasised the importance of the mission which, he said, had to guide them in their daily operations.

While a level of eCommerce was in place, no business was really geared up to be able to cater for the full amount of customers to migrate online.
The majority of businesses have also added delivery services to serve a growing number of customers who resorted to shopping online.
