A woman has died in a fire in the Far North. Detective senior sergeant Mark Dalzell of Northland police said the 72-year-old died on Monday night in a house fire in Taemaro Bay. Emergency services were alerted of the incident about 10:30pm. The woman was the only occupant of the house, Dalzell said.

14-year-old boy charged with murder after Ōpua stabbing Fri, 8 Jan 2021, 3:39PM
Police have charged a 14-year-old boy with murder after a man died from stab wounds near a Northland tavern last night.
Police said emergency services were called to Paihia Rd/State Highway 11 in Opua in the Bay of Islands.
They found a 22-year-old man on the ground with critical stab wounds and despite efforts from St John staff, he died en route to hospital.
Detective senior sergeant Mark Dalzell said police spoke with a number of people present at the scene before arresting a teenager.
