ANGER is growing among Breton fishermen amid claims that 40 of their vessels were ‘banned’ from accessing the Island’s waters.

It follows the nullification of the Granville Bay Treaty, which previously set out shared fishing rights in the Island’s seas but ended after the UK and European Union reached a Brexit deal.
Under the old agreement, French and Jersey boats were able to obtain a licence to fish in each other’s waters by applying to their respective local authorities. However, as a result of the new rules, only Jersey can issue licences.
