Noah England attended a service project on the temple grounds on May 15, 2021. He said his favorite part of the project was meeting new people from backgrounds different than his own. He said he has seen the friends he made around campus since the project and is grateful because, as a new student, he said he no longer feels like a stranger on campus.
Place the brown sugar into a shallow bowl.
Peel and cut bananas into four pieces.
Open can of jackfruit.
Place the quarter banana with a piece of jackfruit in the rice wrapper.
Roll it in the rice wrapper.
Dip fingers in the water and wet the ends of rolled banana lumpia to fold it up onto itself to seal in the banana and jackfruit.
Place each rolled lumpia carefully into the hot pan of oil.
Turn the lumpia with tongs to ensure all sides are a light golden-brown color.
Remove the lumpia rolls from the pan once they are all golden brown.

Nine student clubs at BYU–Hawaii celebrated this year’s food fest virtually by sharing recipes and demonstrating how to prepare their countries’ foods through video. BYUH Student Leadership & Service and the Media Production Team filmed the videos, which were published on the BYU–Hawaii YouTube channel in the Fall 2020 Semester.
Terrell Wu, a sophomore from Malaysia majoring in communications, represented the Singapore and Malaysia Club. He shared, “I felt very lucky to be able to present as Uncle Terrell for our traditional and cultural food from Singapore and Malaysia.”
