Class at the heart of shipping s transformation, says BV

Bureau Veritas Classification societies will play a central role in the transformation of shipping over the next few decades, according to Bureau Veritas. “Today we are at the start of the most interesting times for any of us in shipping. The challenge is there and the opportunity is great. The shipping industry of today may bear little resemblance to that of 2040 or even 2030, let alone 2050,” said Matthieu de Tugny, President Marine & Offshore at Bureau Veritas (BV). The UN’s sustainable development goals are a strong accelerator to change in business, said de Tugny, and the work of classification societies aims to cover nine out of the 17 SDGs.

To that effect, Carnival Corporation, the world’s largest cruise operator, has now contracted Bureau Veritas to support the ships that will be sailing in the upcoming months and those that are sailing already with various health and safety measures. The company will be supporting Carnival Corporation with health and safety services to facilitate the return to cruising, protecting passengers and crew.

Carnival Corporation Partners with Bureau Veritas on Cruise Return

Carnival Corporation today announced they are contracting Bureau Veritas, a worldwide testing, inspection, and certification company, on the safe restart of cruise operation. Carnival, the world’s largest travel and leisure company, has been dormant since last March when the COVID-19 pandemic began. The goal of the partnership is to provide health and safety services to facilitate the return to cruising and to protect the passengers and crew on all 87 ships across 9 cruise brands operated by Carnival.  Bureau Veritas was founded in 1828 in Belgium and their mission statement states a focus on quality, health and safety, environmental protection and social responsibility.

Carnival Corporation & PLC contracts Bureau Veritas to support a safe return to cruising Bureau Veritas (BV), a world leader in testing, inspection, and certification (TIC), has been contracted by Carnival Corporation & PLC the world’s largest leisure travel company with a fleet of 87 ships visiting over 700 ports around the world, to provide health and safety services to facilitate the return to cruising, protecting passengers and crew. The support provided, including verification of safety and hygiene measures, will be based upon the expertise and extensive experience built by Bureau Veritas in 2020 to address health protection and hygiene requirements on-board passenger ships. BV’s approach meets the specific requirements of the cruise market, addressing biological risks, as posed by COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
