In this court, judge manlee has seen a trend that discourages him. More and more defendants who should be talking to a Mental Health professional or a doctor, not a judge. The court system has been the place to send people who are mentally ill as opposed to keeping them in treatment in the community. Is santa clara doing enough to address the mental ill in our society . No, theyre not. I dont think any people are. According to court records, manlee sentence tied rhd tyree, appeared in front of him at least three other times, for three years. They were trying to find a bed for him while he sat in jail. While the judge would not talk specifically about his case, he did tell me he had 500 other people who he had released from jail but who are now being kept in the jail waiting for a bed in a Mental Health facility. We have waiting lists of individuals i have ordered released from jail to go into treatment. Its not an issue of punishment, the punishment is over. The question now is what tr
