Endangered bats are target of federal forest program in Pennsylvania PennLive.com 3/16/2021 Marcus Schneck, pennlive.com A federal program will be putting $300,000 on the ground to preserve and restore habitat for federally protected bats in Pennsylvania. The USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service will target the Healthy Forest Reserve Program funding at permanent forest easements with habitat restoration in Adams, Armstrong, Beaver Bedford, Berks, Blair, Cambria, Centre, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Snyder and York counties. The effort will focus on preserving and restoring Indiana bat maternity colony and hibernacula habitat. The HFRP is a voluntary program to assist landowners in restoring, enhancing and protecting forestland resources on private lands through permanent easements.

At the Farm Country eagle nest, as an undisclosed Pennsylvania location, the female laid her eggs on February 5 and 8. And the female in the Hays nest in Pittsburgh laid her 2 eggs on February 12 and 15. Eagle eggs begin hatching after about 35 days after they are laid, while the eggs in the Hanover nest are already at 37 and 34 days, the eggs in the Farm Country nest are at 34 and 31 days, and the eggs in the Hays nest are at 27 and 24 days.
