JACKSON, Tenn. The Jackson Generals and the Ballpark at Jackson will open their gates for high school teams across the state.
According to a news release, the Ballpark will allow high schools to host their games and tournaments at the stadium.
COVID-19 protocols will be in place, and masks are required to enter the Ballpark.
“Every spring, the Generals offer the opportunity for local high schools to show their stuff on the ‘big’ field and this year is no exception,” said Generals GM Marcus Sabata. “The look and excitement that the players exhibit as they enter the ballpark will never get old and it is truly our pleasure to pass on our love of this great game. We look forward to seeing the incredible baseball talent that resides in Jackson and West Tennessee.”

Jackson Generals boss Marcus Sabata had a surprising reaction when he learned his Double-A Southern League franchise had been officially booted from the affiliated minor leagues: He felt relieved. “We are expecting professional baseball back in Jackson in 2021,” Sabata said. “What makes a night special at the ballpark isn’t the affiliation. It was professional baseball and the experience, so that’s what we’re looking forward to providing the city of Jackson.”

Major League Baseball announced this week 119 of the 120 teams that have been formally invited to remain as minor league affiliates, chopping 40 franchises in a move that’s been anticipated for over a year. News of MLB’s hopes to shrink the minors first emerged during negotiations last offseason for a new Professional Baseball Agreement, and after the deal governing the minors was allowed to expire this fall, Wednesday’s announcement was inevitable.
