Last 50 years, and how Much Technology has changed every aspect of our daily lives, but yet, we still find it essential for young minds to gather on a campus to learn and grow, i think it is a pretty good bet that my grandchildren are going to be on a college campus, and that is how they are going to learn to be independent thinkers. Graduations are a time when Everyone Wants to give all of you advice. Your professors want to tell you what to do with your degree. Your parents want to tell you what to do with your lives. And graduation speakers try to find lofty truths to prepare you for success. And, youre probably going to forget tomorrow after a good night of partying, anything i have told you. And as your esteemed board chair told me a few minutes ago, you are not only going to forget what i told you, you are not going to forget how long i told to tell you that. [laughter] Marcia Mcnutt with that in mind, let me get on with my remarks. I sort of view life as a highstakes poker game.
The first is, sleep. Sleep is not a moral failing. There is all kinds of science to support me. What is going on while you sleep . Your brain is engaging in a neurochemical ballet to a mass the data you may during the day and make connections. It is laying down judgment in your head while you sleep. Second, slightly weird piece of advice is, you have got to keep a life. One of the things that nurtures and protects judgment is physical distance from whatever is dominating your life. And most of your cases that will be work. You have got to step away from the work. I dont know whether that is kickboxing, stamp collecting, or dancing, you must keep doing it. That physical distance from the work fosters and protects your ability to orbit a situation and see it from different perspectives. Get away from this work. As you do that, you have got to love somebody. Full of loved ones because you are supposed to love them. There is a danger, especially in the life of a lawyer, and it is called ge
America became a shining symbol of freedom a prosperity to the world. Today, we must ensure that america retains that lust ter. Everyone arrives here from different walks of life. Some are lawyers, some are Business Leaders and yes, well, at least one of us is a reindear rancher. I recognize we have different viewpoints and i have joined congress during a contentious time. I do think, however, there is one thing on which we should all agree, the job of a member of congress is to protect the rights of the people, not take them away. The National Debt is approaching 17 trillion. The decisions we make in this chamber, not only affect us today, they resonate throughout future generations. The massive National Debt we are accruing will leave to our children a weaker nation than the one we inherited from our parents. Those yet to be born do not have a voice today. What im describing. The beneficiaries that are targeted underserved communities in louisiana, mississippi, alabama, and the florida panhandle. There are four components to this. The first is a program serving the developing improved Community Health programs. It is run by Louisiana Public Health Institute joined with the Alliance Institute which is a communitybased organization. There is a mental and Behavioral Health program which has Louisiana State university, southern mississippi university, the university of South Alabama and the university of west florida. There is a Literacy Program which includes a washington based group. Thats got the literacy aimed at the literacy of the community and the Community Workers and those involved in with Community Activism and community projects. Finally, there is a Community Health Worker Training Program that is based at the university of South Alabama.
