i might disagree just mildly with stephanie here, i thought the march 2008 speech around race, around then senator obama s pastor. reverend wright. i thought that speech was a very emotional and extraordinary speech in the middle of a presidential campaign and at a very pivotal time where he needed to go at and explain to the american people this basic piece of his life that had to do with his faith, it had to do with his church, but also a broader context of how he approached these issues. i was really struck listening to his speech on friday at how much how far again he has come and this country has come in terms of discussing these issues since march 2008. i think what you see what you saw this week was the president that we all know who has an iron will when it really comes to issues of social justice, of

reverend wright. i thought that speech was a very emotional and extraordinary speech in the middle of a presidential campaign and at a very pivotal time where he really needed to go out and explain to the american people this basic piece of his life that had to do with his faith, that had to do with his church, that had to do with his pastor, but also a broader context of how he approached these issues. and i was really struck, jake, listening to his speech on friday at how much how far, again, he has come and this country has come in terms of discussing these issues. since march 2008. i think what you see, what you saw this week, was the president that we all know, who has an iron will when it really comes to issues of social justice, of racial justice, and of economic justice. and all three of those issues you saw this week. he said in the podcast that ran on monday, that he was fearless. ben, i think it s fair to say that there was more reluctance

obama you saw friday is the same one that you and other democrats fell in love with years ago. absolutely. you know, the president has given many, many good speeches. and i don t think anybody disagrees with that regardless of your politics. but the speech that he gave on friday, was the same barack obama, the same emotional barack obama speaking truth to this country, and bringing everybody along with him. i haven t seen something like that since 2004. really? and that s with someone who gives great speeches. but the emotion, the rawness of it, was so real to me. it was a weird bookend, because anita, i remember covering obama s race speech in philadelphia during the convention during the primary races in 2008 kind of a weird book end to that speech. i might disagree just mildly with stephanie here because i actually thought that march 2008 speech a more perfect union that was given at a time of great controversy around race, around then-senator obama s pastor. reverend

here is the book that you have written. this is called hard choices. it s an incredibly, i think, complex and well reasoned and eye witness view to the history of those four years, and i think i speak for everybody when i say no one cares. they just want to know if you re running for president. welcome back to hardball. that was, of course, hillary clinton with jon stewart on the daily show. it s her first appearance since march 2008 when she was fighting barack obama for democratic domination. while a lot has changed over the last six years, the subject remains the same. everyone is watching and waiting to see how hillary clinton will handle the next challenge. i have a like a career aptitude test. it could help you. this is good.
