The Chicago White Sox have been a South Side staple since 1901, but they have their sites set on The 78, a location a few miles north in the South Loop.
Sources tell the Sun-Times the team is considering building a new stadium on Clark and Roosevelt site. Mayor Brandon Johnson and Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf would only say, “We met to discuss the historic partnership between the team and Chicago and the team’s ideas for remaining competitive in Chicago in perpetuity.”
White Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf is exploring stadium options, including a South Loop site along the Chicago River. The Guaranteed Rate Field lease expires in 2029.
