Shrinking levels in the Jayakwadi dam in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar had raised an alarm last month with activists and political leaders taking to the streets in protest.
The scheme is meant to tackle the drought in Marathwada region. As per the cabinet discussion, there are three lift diversion schemes which include Damanganga - Vaitarana - Godavari, Damanganga - Ekdare - Godavari and Par - Godavari.
The Jayakwadi dam, which is the largest source of water for domestic use and irrigation, has marked very low water storage at 32% as against last year’s 97%.
