The City of Monmouth is looking into how to re-purpose a space of land that once was the location of the Maple City Dairy up until its demolition earlier this year.
Aldermen were presented with a drafted plan of what this space could be used for, including creating parking space for nearby Warren County Public Library, the Buchanan Center for the Arts, and other area businesses close to downtown.
City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher says that the city is seeking funding sources for the project and looking to adjacent businesses that could utilize the space too.
“And then there is also the possibility that some of the adjoining stores or commercial buildings if there was some reinvestment from them,” Steinbrecher told WGIL in a Tuesday interview. “We’ll have to have some conversations with the adjoining property owners. See what we can do, where we could better capitalize on the using the property to bring more customers into the nearby business.”
