Monmouth seeing increasing demand for more housing developments

There appears to be an increased demand for new housing developments in the Maple City. City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher tells WGIL that the Monmouth Townhomes development revealed a huge demand for rental family housing in Monmouth. "One of the bright things that have come out of that. They, not only, have had enough people to rent all of the units but have a waiting list that is over 100 [families] long," Steinbrecher said in a Tuesday interview. "It bodes well that there is a demand for housing here in Monmouth. In fact, we'd like to sit down with the developer and talk about maybe a second project, given what we know to be the demand now for rental housing." The Monmouth Townhomes project saw 44 residences built on seven acres of property south of Kimberly Drive, near the AmericInn and Arby'sin Monmouth. Monmouth Aldermen this week got a look at the budget for the next fiscal year, which includes a myriad of infrastructure projects that are moving forward in the next year. City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher tells WGIL that the city's new budget is 24 percent higher than the previous year's budget due to some big projects on the horizon. Steinbrecher says that state and federal grant funds helped fund those projects. "The main reason for that is that we have received a number of grants within the last year and a lot of those projects are being funded for the upcoming fiscal year some $7.5 million. That includes not only state and federal grant funds but some local matches." Infrastructure projects include the W. Harlem water main replacement, E.
