Kuala Lumpur: Umno delegates at the party’s annual general assembly broke out in chants of “Bebas Bossku” and “Hidup Bossku” in support of former party president Najib Razak.
PUTRAJAYA: Many Umno MPs have chosen to stay mum on where they stand on the decision by their party to retract support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Star contacted more than half of Umno’s 38 lawmakers and most refused comment when asked if they agreed with the party’s decision.
Others chose to speak off the record.
“I will share my thoughts with you but you cannot put it in writing,” said a lawmaker who did not want to be named.
However, Pontian MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said that as an Umno member and party secretary-general, he was duty-bound to abide by the party’s decision.

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 Any Umno leaders facing charges in court should step down or distance themselves from the party since they would leave a negative impression among the people, former Umno vice president Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said today.
In a report by Mingguan Malaysia, Muhammad said it was Umno’s party tradition whereby any party leaders charged in court will voluntarily resign and they could re-apply to return to the party’s fold after the conclusion of their trial and subsequent acquittal.
