MANTON â The owners of Mantonâs lone gas station have been in discussions with city officials to obtain land at the southeast corner of Main Street and Michigan Avenue in exchange for a sizeable donation toward construction of the new library.
On Tuesday, May 18, representatives of True North, LLC are scheduled to present their proposal to the Manton City Commission.
According to documents obtained by the Cadillac News related to the proposal, the land in question is across the street from the gas station currently owned and operated by True North. In exchange for this land, which will be the site of their new and improved service station, True North will donate $200,000 toward construction of the new Manton library.
MANTON â Lots of people will recall a time when the Manton Mill Pond looked much different than it does now.
Once upon a time, a dam over Manton Creek swelled the Mill Pond waters, making it possible to fish and do other activities there.
When this dam was removed in 2012 due to its deteriorated condition and other environmental factors, however, the Mill Pond shrunk significantly.
While the area is still beautiful today, much of the activities people used to be able to do there vanished.
Area resident Chris Stronach has a plan to âbridge the gapâ between peopleâs memories and how the Mill Pond area looks now.
