MANTON — Commissioners approved one portion of a plan to add a number of new features to the Manton Mill Pond, and intend to meet in committee to discuss the
MANTON â With his proposal tweaked a bit following a recent work session with city commissioners, Manton resident Chris Stronach is ready to once again present his vision for the historic Mill Pond area.
Stronach approached the commission last month with an idea to add a mini library, informational plaques, benches and other features to the mill pond. Once upon a time, a dam over Manton Creek swelled the Mill Pond waters, making it possible to fish and do other activities there. When this dam was removed in 2012 due to its deteriorated condition and other environmental factors, however, the Mill Pond shrunk significantly. Stronach said his goal was to âbridge the gapâ between peopleâs memories and how the Mill Pond area looks now.
MANTON â After hearing a presentation detailing a plan to add a number of features to the Manton Mill Pond area, commissioners decided they would like to discuss the idea in more detail before making a formal decision.
On Tuesday, April 20, Manton resident Chris Stronach presented his plan to âbridge the gap between peopleâs memories of the Mill Pond and how the area looks now.
Stronach s idea is to build a mini library near the entrance to the Mill Pond off North 41 1/2 Road. A mini-library is essentially a neighborhood book exchange, where people pick up and drop off books at their leisure and at no charge.
MANTON â Lots of people will recall a time when the Manton Mill Pond looked much different than it does now.

While the area is still beautiful today, much of the activities people used to be able to do there vanished.
