7 held for killing 38 monkeys in Karnataka s Hassan

Hassan, (Karnataka): The forest department and police have arrested seven persons, including a woman in connection with the killing of 38 monkeys in the Hassan district. The police said on Tuesday that all the arrested persons were monkey catchers and villagers had funded them to catch monkeys. The accused have been identified as Ramu, Yashoda, Manja, Manje Gowda, Iyyangari, Srikanth and Ramanuja Iyengar. All of them have been sent to judicial custody. The incident had taken place in the Chowdanahalli village on July 29. Miscreants had stuffed the monkeys in gunny bags and thrown them by the roadside. The incident had come to light when the local youths, after finding the gunny bags lying on the roadside, opened them.

The rally reportedly will also be in protest against the Karnataka government which has enacted similar anti-farmer legislations. Movement of the farmers Badagalapura Nagendra, a senior leader of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), has said that this is a movement of the farmers and the workers . Irrespective of the organisations with which farmers are affiliated to, he said the rally will be a united one .

Ambedkar in front of Town Hall and the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Gandhi Square. “We organised about 50 kg of rice, 40 kg of vegetables, coconuts and medicine, besides filling fuel for the vehicles,” Mr. Shanthakumar said.
