Chief Minister N Biren Singh reportedly told a students’ delegation on September 27 that he is handicapped by imposition of Article 355 in the state of Manipur to intervene in matters of law and order.
Article 355 empowers the Centre to take all necessary steps for a state’s security. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has denied that it has been imposed but uncertainty still remains in the state over this issue.
Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh, the son-in-law of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, said in X, formerly Twitter, that as the ten MLAs are demanding a separate state they should resign from the assembly.
