Coming in earlier today here at the armed force Readiness Center here in cedar rapids. They deployed early on new years day morning, and have worked non stop providing nearly 500 thousand gallons clean water to more than 6 thousand residents in two counties in missouri. All of that water was used as a few soldiers ive spoken to during this process say this is the first time theyve ever responded to a Natural Disaster like this. And one soldiers account of what he saw in missouri is breathtaking. You can hear from him in the story im working on for ten. News. Thanks, olivia. Firefighters spending the day training for ice and cold water rescues. Training was at Manhattan Lake in ellis park. The Cedar Rapids Department was involved in 8 water and ice related rescues in 2015. Kwwls Kristin Rogers spent the day at the lake obersiving this special type of training, kristin its calm here now, but earlier this area was full of firemen in dry suits working hard to learn the necessary tequniques
Dozens of troops returning home this evening after providing more than 300 thousand gallons of clean water to flood victims in missouri. Missouri has been in a state of emergency since the holidays heavy flooding soiled the towns water supply, displaced homes than a dozen. The Iowa National guard left for provide relief. Kwwls Olivia Mancino was in cedar rapids to see the soldiers return she joins us now live back in our newsroom 45 soldiers and 15 vehicles deployed new years morning to missouri to provide clean water to thousands of people i spoke to a few of the soldiers before they left last week and to more soldiers today. For many of them this was the First National disaster theyve ever responded to. It was a chilly homecoming wednesday afternooon for this Iowa National guard convoy. Jumping out of the truck when we first crossed over was really cold just hours prior these soldiers were in missouri, providing relief to flood victims who have been without clean water for weeks. The
