It was revealed today that Apple hired the VP of Autonomous Vehicles Lab from Hyundai MOBIS, Gregory Baratoff – and his LinkedIn profile indicates that he was officially hired in August.
Apple reportedly hired a veteran of Lamborghini to join its electric vehicle (EV) team. According to Bloomberg, Luigi Taraborrelli joined Apple to help lead the design of the EV. In his 20-year career at Lamborghini, Taraborrelli managed the chassis and vehicle dynamics engineering/R&D. He also led the design of the suspension components, rims and tires, steering and brake systems, exhaust.
In late June, Patently Apple posted a report titled “Contrary to the facts known so far, Volkswagen’s CEO Bizarrely believes that Apple’s Project Titan is going to be limited to Software. Today, news of another high-end hire was revealed that had nothing to do with software.
Apple s Project Titan is a long-term electric autonomous vehicle project. Apple has dozens if not hundreds of patents and has hired high profile professionals to move the project along. The entire autonomous vehicle industry still struggles with sensors that don t deliver data correctly and have caused hundreds of crashes a year. While Project Titan is having early successes, it also has some annoying sensor hiccups.
