Armenian Government Mum On Pashinian’s Trip To Moscow

The Armenian government did not confirm or refute on Friday reports that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian will fly to Moscow on Monday for further talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Armenian opposition figures and some media outlets critical of the government have said in recent days that Pashinian will hold there a trilateral meeting with Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan.
A pro-opposition social media account claimed on Thursday that they will sign an agreement on Armenian territorial concessions to Azerbaijan in an effort to cement the Russian-brokered ceasefire in the Karabakh conflict zone. It said the draft agreement has already been sent to Armenian Ministry of Justice for examination.

Armenia rejected on Thursday Azerbaijan’s strong criticism of Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazian’s latest visit to Nagorno-Karabakh, saying that it did not run counter to the Russian-brokered ceasefire in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict zone.
Ayvazian travelled to Stepanakert earlier this week for talks with Karabakh’s leaders. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev condemned the trip as “provocative” in televised remarks aired on Thursday.
Aliyev said Armenian officials must stop visiting Karabakh without Baku’s permission. “Let them not forget about the war,” he said, according to the TASS news agency.

YEREVAN Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian facing criticism from the country’s dominant Christian church over his handling of Armenia s recent war against Azerbaijan has stayed away from a Christmas service he was expected to attend in Yerevan on January 6.
Parliamentary speaker Ararat Mirzoyan and other key members of Pashinian’s political team were also
conspicuously absent from the mass that was held at St. Gregory the Illuminator s Cathedral in Yerevan.
Prosecutor-General Artur Davtian was the only senior state official present at the service.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian declined to attend on Wednesday a Christmas mass celebrated by Catholicos Garegin II, the supreme head of the Armenian Apostolic Church increasingly at loggerheads with Armenia’s government.
Parliament speaker Ararat Mirzoyan and other key members of Pashinian’s political team were also conspicuously absent. Prosecutor-General Artur Davtian was the only senior state official present at the liturgy held at Saint Gregory the Illuminator’s Cathedral in Yerevan.
Pashinian congratulated Armenians on Christmas, marked by their ancient church on January 6, with an excerpt from the Gospel posted on his Facebook page. His spokeswoman, Mane Gevorgian, said later in the morning that he did not go to the mass because of the coronavirus pandemic.
