This Wednesday and Thursday doesn’t bode well for Massachusetts’ wildlife, sportsmen and naturalists. Some 1,760 acres of the Cumberland Farms wild land in Southeastern Massachusetts are about to be auctioned off. Forty-two separate parcels have at least 60 bidding groups salivating over it. This sale could have a devastating impact forever on Massachusetts wildlife there. A significant part of the land is in the Great Cedar Swamp. It made me think of how years back Cumberland Farms somehow was able to build a huge facility on precious wild land in Westboro’s Cedar Swamp.

Manchaug Pond cleanup is April 24

Manchaug Pond cleanup is April 24 Community Content SUTTON/DOUGLAS The Manchaug Pond Foundation will be holding their Spring Clean Up of scenic Manchaug Pond on Saturday, April 24. Volunteers are invited to join members and Friends of the Manchaug Pond Foundation in cleaning up Manchaug Pond and its watershed. Volunteers with boats are also welcome to help us clean up coves. Volunteer time will support the requirements of MPF’s third s319 Non-point Source Pollution Grant, which was awarded in fall 2020 by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. The effort is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. to noon April 24, with volunteers meeting at the state Public Access Boat Ramp on Torrey Road in Sutton.
