This Wednesday and Thursday doesn’t bode well for Massachusetts’ wildlife, sportsmen and naturalists. Some 1,760 acres of the Cumberland Farms wild land in Southeastern Massachusetts are about to be auctioned off. Forty-two separate parcels have at least 60 bidding groups salivating over it. This sale could have a devastating impact forever on Massachusetts wildlife there. A significant part of the land is in the Great Cedar Swamp. It made me think of how years back Cumberland Farms somehow was able to build a huge facility on precious wild land in Westboro’s Cedar Swamp.

Lackawanna Trail Park in Columbia NY to host Train Day event

As part of the Train Day Celebration, the operators plan to run day and evening trains every half-hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 9 p.m. with displays available for viewing and a steam engine demonstration in between those times. “We have a growing railroad here with more exciting developments in the future,” said Austin Joyce, who heads up the passenger train service at the park. The passenger train cars are from the old Frontier Town theme park in North Hudson. One car has been restored and another is being restored. A German steam engine built in 1936, which is being retrofitted to run on compressed air instead of steam, will also be displayed.
