Tiger unit of Assam s Manas National Park wins International Ranger Award

Text Size: A+ New Delhi: The tiger patrol team of Assam’s Manas National Park was honoured with the ‘Highly Commended’ certification at the 2021 International Ranger Awards (IRA) Thursday. Called the ‘Manas Tiger Team’, the 12-member mobile patrol unit of the national park was formed by the forest department of the Bodoland Territorial Council in March 2016. As many as 10 winners were selected from 113 nominations across 43 countries at the IRA. Additionally, 19 rangers and teams across the world, including the Manas Tiger Team, were recognised with special commendations for their work. The tiger patrol unit from Manas National Park was also awarded $3,000 for the betterment of the park.

prestigious International Ranger Award GUWAHATI: The “Manas Tiger Team”, a mobile patrol team formed by the state forest department, has been recognised with special commendations for its contributions to protected and conserved areas at the prestigious International Ranger Award (IRA). The IRA is developed collaboratively by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) with an aim to highlight and felicitate the extraordinary work that rangers do in protected and conserved areas worldwide. Field director of Manas Tiger Reserve Amal Chandra Sarmah said, “With each passing year, the park is adorning new feathers to its cap. This recognition to the team with special ‘highly commended’ certificate and a special recognition has given a boost to our officials and frontline staff and the whole of Manas team in their efforts for better conservation and protection.
