A small in-person and virtual ceremony was held on Feb. 26, at the City Council Chambers as newly appointed Hinesville Police Chief, Lloyd Slater took his oath of office. The semi-virtual event was livestreamed on the City of Hinesville’s Facebook Page.
City Manager Kenneth Howard acknowledged the city officials attending the event. Afterwards he asked everyone to stand as they presented the HPD Color Guard, and while they sang the National Anthem and said the Pledge of Allegiance.

After more than six years of planning the City of Hinesville finally broke ground on their Small Business Incubator. The groundbreaking ceremony held Jan. 29, in downtown Hinesville brought together officials from the City of Hinesville, the Hinesville Development Authority (HDA) and dignitaries from community partners such as Georgia Southern University, Liberty Campus President Kyle Marrero.

Leaders from the City of Hinesville and the Hinesville Development Authority (HDA) broke ground on a new small business incubator in Downtown Hinesville on Jan. 29. The new small business incubator, which is the first and only of its kind for the Hinesville community, will help local entrepreneurs develop and grow business in the area. At the Jan. 7, City of Hinesville Council meeting, history was made after the Mayor and Council approved the appointment of Lloyd Slater as the first African American Police Chief for the City. The Council voted unanimously after coming back from executive session. See the story in today’s newspaper.
The Mayor and Council were presented the design concept and drawings being considered for the replacement of Hinesville Fire Station one on Liberty Street.

During the Jan. 7, City of Hinesville Council meeting the Mayor and Council voted unanimously on appointing Lloyd Slater as the City’s New Chief of Police. The voting occurred after the Council and Mayor re-convened into public forum following an executive session.
Slater, was selected to serve as the Acting Police Chief earlier this month when former Chief Bill Kirkendall resigned effective Jan. 1.
Slater is the first African American to hold the post of Hinesville’s Police Chief. He started his career at HPD 34 years ago as a patrol officer and worked his way up the ranks, including 29 years of supervisory experience with the HPD, according to a release issued by the City.
